Hello everyone! I hope you've been enjoying a wonderful holiday weekend. I've been out-of-town visiting family this past week, so please excuse any delay in responding to comments and questions. Once I'm home again, I'll be back replying as usual.
Yesterday was the official kick-off of the holiday shopping season. I'm not a big fan of the Black Friday mobs, but I do keep an eye on the sales from afar. Because retailers are unusually concerned about the economy this year, it looks like the sales will continue to be good throughout this season. That means it will be a good opportunity to grab up any essentials that you might need at really good discounts. I know I'll be on the lookout for a new sweater to replace one that just had an unfortunate encounter with a bleaching agent.

I am a new reader to your blog. Most of my comment is about an older post of yours...I am a sewer...when I count up the items in my wardrobe, about 80% is clothing that I have made myself (except cardigans, which I buy), with the remainder being ebay bargains or gifts. I often wonder why I make so much of my clothing...mostly, I think it is because shopping is so difficult...there seems to be a lot of choice out there, but searching through that choice to find something that suits my style, shape, colour and budget is all too overwhelming. I like your wardrobe planning approach (6 anchors, 12 tops)...it seems do-able, so I have just gone through and sorted my summer wardrobe. It is great, becuase it has helped me focus on what to sew next...2 more anchor pieces coming up. Thanks for publishing your info.

Good advice; it does seem as though there are likely to be some genuine sale bargains around this year.
From a consumer perspective (as opposed to when I'm advising the retailers) I would caution people to decide what they want in advance and then find it in the sales - rather than let the cheap prices guide what they buy; would you agree?

This may just be me...but I don't know why anyone would bother shopping at department stores when you can find the same things a few months later at Marhsall, T J Maxx and such. And if you find a good consignment store (rare for men but there) great stuff for pennies on the dollar.

I was out shopping this weekend and got some great deals on gifts for others on my list. I am happy to report that since I've adopted the VSC wardrobe model, I felt no need, as in the past, to be preoccupied with checking the sales for clothing for me as I'm pretty well set for the season. It was a relief and allowed me to be single focused and very efficient. Thanks for the guidance!
I even bought clothes today during the holiday shopping season.

I'm like Katherine and Denise, no present need to stock up and go massive shopping.
Although, when I was buying jeans the other day I DID spot a perfect for me short shapped black jacket. The difference is, I can SEE a style I know works REALLY well on my curvy figure and grab it. Sans guilt (yes, at Wal*Mart) and ALSO not feel the need to go shopping AIMING to find all of that.
great advise for women to look our best and be our most attractive, as single women and as married women!
